“Rooms of remembrance”
This project explores how memory, history, and identity can be visualized through painting. Using photographs from a century-spanning family archive alongside images gathered during ten years of urban exploration, I create wall-based installations composed of five or more 40 x 40 cm MDF panels showing fragmented interiors and portraits. These juxtapositions highlight who is included or excluded from history, revealing how memory is both personal and collective, coherent and fractured. Rooted in my multicultural European, Euro-Asian, and Indonesian background, the work addresses themes of migration, belonging, colonialism, and decolonization. It aims to preserve and reactivate stories at risk of fading away.
